Introducing North Houston Chiropractor Dr. Erica O'Brien

A doctor's confession, and why, despite it all, I still do what I do...
Let me tell you my story...
Thirty four years ago something happened that changed my life forever. Back then, I was a stay at home mom with my two year old daughter, but I had been suffering with horrible migraine headaches. You know, the type that isn't just a headache, but makes you sick to your stomach and is so sensitive, any light or noise makes you want to huddle in a dark corner. Imagine trying to take care of a busy toddler in such misery. Finally, my sister-in-law talked me into seeing a chiropractor. The chiropractor did an exam, took some films and "adjusted" my spine. The adjustment didn't hurt, it actually felt good. I got relief and those headaches stopped interrupting my life.
But wait, there's more...
A year later, my daughter began having problems with ear infections. The doctors could not get these ear infections under control despite the medicines and best care available. My daughter was miserable. I was still seeing my chiropractor, but never thought to mention the problems my daughter was having. After three months of driving to the medical center every week, the doctor finally just stood there and watched as my little girl's ear drum burst. I happened to have a chiropractor's appointment that day. Boy were we a sad sight! We were crying and upset, and he asked what was going on. When I told him our story, he said that he could help! My chiropractor did an exam on my daughter and gently adjusted her. The chiropractic adjustments were able to get control of those ear infections. In fact, she only ever had one more, when she was 12 years old.
I was so happy and impressed with the chiropractic care we got, I eventually went to school to be a chiropractor. Actually, so did my daughter!
It's strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their headaches, and bring me their little ones with ear infections. Also they come to me with chronic pain, back aches, neck pain, asthma, allergies, and numbness in their limbs just to name a few.
You know, every day patients come to me and thank me for "curing" them of this or that, but I have a confession. My confession is that I don't cure anyone of anything. I never have. What I do is perform specific spinal adjustments, and the body responds by healing itself. It's as simple as that. Your body was made to heal itself, as long as there's no interference. Chiropractic removes nerve interference, and that's why we get wonderful results. Perhaps that's also why a Virginia study showed that 99% of people who saw a chiropractor were happy with their results. That's pretty incredible.
I graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in 1980. Since that time I have taken additional classes in neuro-emotional techniques, nutritional therapy, was certified in Bio Cranial techniques, and many others. Being proficient in a number of chiropractic techniques, such as non-force methods and muscle testing, makes it easy to find a method of care that you are comfortable with.
My hope for each of my patients is that they are as healthy as possible. After many years of taking care of many families as well as practicing what I preach, I am confident that chiropractic has much to offer. Your first visit is designed for me to gain an understanding of what challenges you are facing, and how I can help you get better. Your second visit allows us the opportunity to look at what I found, give you options for taking care of yourself and arrive at the course of care that is best for you.
The greatest satisfaction I get in practice is getting to see how tickled people are that they are feeling better, living more comfortably and generally having more fun!

I have been blessed with 2 amazing daughters and 3 grandchildren and, of course, I love to be with them. We frequently travel together, all four generations, and have a ball. At other times, I can be found making pottery, or my other passion, sailing. We are fortunate to live in an area where so many options exist for adventure and learning.
Do I practice what I preach? Oh my, yes. I am adjusted several times per month, symptoms or not, exercise 3-4 times per week, and adhere to the diet that I will recommend for you. My day starts with a brisk walk or on an elliptical machine and several large glasses of water. Neither of my children, nor their children have received vaccinations since we discovered chiropractic and the body wisdom philosophy inherent in it, and medications are used only as a last resort. I would be delighted to discuss how natural health can be achieved for you and your family at any time.
Look, it's not easy being a chiropractor. There's a lot of "experts" out there who know nothing about our profession, but give people "advice" and a lot of misinformation. But, you know, the truth always seems to win out. People are coming to us in droves because they are sick and tired of just having their symptoms covered up with drugs. They know better.
Forty-five million Americans no longer have health insurance, and those who do have found that their benefits are reduced. That's where chiropractic comes in. Many people find that they actually save money on their health care expenses by seeing a chiropractor. There people find that they, and their families, don't get sick as often. Another way to save... studies show that chiropractic can double your immune capacity, naturally and without drugs. The immune system fights colds, the flu, and other sicknesses. So you may not be running off to the doctor as much. This is especially important if you are self-employed. And, an entire week of care in my office may cost what you could pay for one visit elsewhere.
I hope this has helped you to get to know me a little better, and know that you will get top quality care in my office. Thanks for the time you have taken. I know that getting a new doctor can be a big job. Call us today at 281-376-7700 and make an appointment, or email us. I look forward to getting to know you.
